Boat and jet ski finance from a Gold Coast broker
Solvyr Capital is based in Southport, a short run from the Broadwater. Around here a boat is not a luxury, it is how weekends work. Tinnies on the canals, half cabins through the Seaway, offshore rigs chasing the shelf, and jet skis for everything in between. We arrange finance for all of it: new, used, dealer stock or private sale.
Boats are not cars, and lenders treat them differently. Some will not look at a vessel past a certain age. Others are comfortable with an older hull if the deal stacks up. A general asset lender might knock back a boat that a marine specialist would approve the same week. That is the case for using a broker. We work with a panel of 30+ lenders, banks and specialist non-bank lenders included, and we match the boat to the lender instead of pushing your purchase through one bank's rulebook.
Two things stay true the whole way through. Every approval is subject to lender criteria and credit assessment, and nobody can honestly promise you an approval. What you do get is a straight answer on where you stand before anything touches your credit file.
What lenders look at with boats and jet skis
Credit policy varies lender to lender, but with boats and jet skis the same questions come up every time.
- Age of the vessel. Lenders usually care about how old the boat will be at the end of the loan term, not just on the day you buy it. An older hull narrows the field but rarely closes it. Marine specialists tend to go further back than the big banks.
- Trailer boat or bigger vessel. Trailerable boats and jet skis are treated much like any other asset: quick assessment, minimal fuss. Larger vessels such as flybridge cruisers and yachts are a different exercise. Lenders often want a marine survey, and sometimes an independent valuation, before they will settle.
- Where you are buying. Dealer purchases are straightforward. Private sales need a bit more care: proof of ownership, a PPSR check to confirm no money is owing on the vessel, and clean transfer paperwork. We do that legwork as part of the job.
- Your position. Income, existing commitments and credit history, the usual. If your situation is not textbook, say so early. It changes which lenders we approach, not whether we will help.
Marine specialist lenders exist because boats are their whole business. They understand hull age and resale in a way a generalist does not. But a specialist is not automatically the right call. For a near-new trailer boat, a general asset lender is often faster and simpler. Having both on the panel means we pick whichever gets you the better outcome, not whichever is easiest for us.
Self-employed? Low doc options exist
A lot of boat buyers on the Gold Coast run their own business. Payslips are thin on the ground and last year's tax return does not tell the real story. Low doc options exist for exactly this. Depending on the lender, that can mean using BAS, business bank statements or an accountant's letter instead of full financials.
If that sounds like you, our pages on low doc finance for ABN holders and loans for self-employed borrowers cover the detail. Or skip the reading and just tell us your situation in the enquiry.
Two boundaries worth flagging. This page is about recreational boats. If the vessel will earn its keep through charter, hire or commercial fishing, that is a different lending category, so raise it with us first. And if you are weighing up buying in your own name versus a company or trust, ask your accountant. We arrange finance. We do not give tax advice.
How boat finance works with us
The process is deliberately simple, and the first step costs you nothing but two minutes.
We are Gold Coast based and work with clients Australia-wide, so the boat can be in Cairns and you can be in Perth and it still works. One disclosure, because you should know how we get paid: Solvyr Capital acts as a credit representative and may receive commission from lenders when your loan settles, and we disclose that up front. FAQs
How long does boat finance approval take?
Once your documents are in, approvals often land within 24 to 48 hours. Larger vessels that need a marine survey can take longer because the lender waits on the survey report before signing off. Every approval is subject to lender criteria and credit assessment.
Can I get finance for a boat I'm buying privately?
Yes, most lenders on our panel will finance a private sale boat. The lender will want proof of ownership and a PPSR check to confirm no money is owing on the vessel, and we handle that paperwork for you. It takes a little longer than a dealer purchase but it is a well-worn path.
Does enquiring about boat finance affect my credit score?
No. The initial enquiry with us takes about two minutes and does not touch your credit file. A credit check only happens later, once you have chosen a lender and given us the go-ahead to lodge a formal application.
Can I get a boat loan if I'm self-employed?
Yes. If you hold an ABN and full financials are a hassle, low doc options may be available using alternatives like BAS or business bank statements. Each lender sets its own requirements, so approval depends on lender criteria and credit assessment. We regularly arrange finance for self-employed borrowers.
Can you finance a jet ski?
Yes, jet skis are financed much like trailer boats, whether new, used or bought privately. Some lenders apply age limits, so an older ski narrows the options but rarely rules them out. The process starts with the same two-minute enquiry and has no impact on your credit score.
