Finance for the Bike You Actually Want

A motorbike loan is not just a car loan with two fewer wheels. Lenders treat different bikes differently, and the type you're buying changes who will finance it. Get that right before anything is submitted and the whole process runs quicker.

We arrange motorbike finance across the lot:

  • Road bikes. Learner-approved models through to litre bikes. The most straightforward category, and most of our panel will look at them.
  • Cruisers. Including the Harley upgrade you've been circling for years. A bigger purchase is fine as long as the application stacks up.
  • Adventure and touring bikes. If it's registered, most lenders treat it the same as a road bike.
  • Dirt and enduro bikes. This is where registration matters. A registered trail bike and a recreation-only bike are different assets to a lender, and rec-only bikes have a smaller pool of lenders willing to write them. Options exist, you just need to start with the right lenders. Tell us upfront and we will.

First bike or fifth, the approach is the same. New riders get matched to lenders comfortable with a first-time borrower. Experienced riders trading up get matched to lenders happy with bigger, older or more specialised machines.

New, Used and Private Sale Bikes

Dealer stock is the simple path. The lender gets a tax invoice, the dealer handles the paperwork and delivery, and settlement moves quickly.

Used bikes through a dealer are nearly as easy. Some lenders apply age limits to the bike at the end of the loan term, so a much older machine narrows the field a little. It rarely rules finance out. It just changes which lender we go to first.

Private sales take more work, and this is where a broker earns their keep. Before settlement, the lender wants to know the bike is genuinely the seller's to sell. That means a PPSR check to confirm there's no money owing on it, verification of the seller's identity and ownership, and if the seller still has a loan on the bike, the lender pays it out directly so the debt doesn't follow you home. We run those checks as part of the process.

One more thing worth knowing: some lenders will let you build gear and on-road costs into the loan. Helmet, jacket, rego, insurance. Not every lender offers it and it depends on the bike, so raise it early and we'll factor it into the shortlist.

How It Works

It starts with a two minute enquiry, and that enquiry does not affect your credit score. We look at your situation honestly before anything goes near your credit file. If the deal isn't there, we'll tell you straight.

1Quick enquiryAbout two minutes online. Tell us about you and the bike. No impact on your credit score.
2Lender matchWe shortlist from a panel of 30+ banks and specialist lenders based on the bike, your income type and your history.
3Docs and approvalSend through your documents. Approvals often land within 24 to 48 hours, subject to lender criteria and credit assessment.
4Settle and rideThe lender pays the dealer or private seller directly. You pick up the bike.

Self-employed? You're a big part of who we work with. ABN holders can use low doc options that don't require full financials, and our self-employed loans page explains how lenders assess irregular income. The same principles apply to bikes.

Why Go Through a Broker

We're based in Southport on the Gold Coast, and plenty of our riders are local. But bikes get bought everywhere, and the process runs the same over phone and email, so we arrange finance for clients Australia-wide.

Here's the difference. Your bank has one answer. The dealership finance desk usually has a handful of lenders and a monthly target. One conversation with us puts your application in front of a panel of more than 30 lenders, banks and specialist non-bank lenders included. We're not tied to one lender's products, so we go where your application fits best.

If your credit history has a few dents in it, say so. We'd rather know early, because it changes which lenders we approach. An honest conversation costs nothing, while a declined application sits on your credit file. No judgement, just a straight assessment of what's realistic before anything is lodged.

One thing to be upfront about: Solvyr Capital acts as a credit representative, and we may receive a commission from the lender when your loan settles. We disclose this, and it doesn't change our advice on which lender suits you. Questions about buying the bike through your business or claiming it? That's one for your accountant, we don't give tax advice.

Found the bike, or still browsing the classifieds? Either way, start your two minute enquiry and know where you stand before you negotiate.

FAQs

Can you finance a dirt bike that isn't registered?

Yes, though the lender pool is smaller. Recreation-only bikes are treated differently to registered road bikes, and some lenders won't touch them. Others will, and part of our job is knowing which is which. Tell us the bike is rec-only upfront and we'll go straight to the right lenders.

Does applying for motorbike finance hurt my credit score?

The initial enquiry with us takes about two minutes and does not affect your credit score. A formal application with a lender does get recorded on your credit file, which is why we assess your situation honestly first. Nothing goes to a lender until we think it has a real chance.

Can I get a loan for a motorbike bought from a private seller?

Yes, many of our lenders finance private sales. There are extra checks: a PPSR search to confirm no money is owing on the bike, and verification that the seller actually owns it. If the seller still has a loan on the bike, the lender pays it out directly at settlement. We handle those steps for you.

Can I include gear and on-road costs in a motorbike loan?

Sometimes. Certain lenders will let you build riding gear, rego and other on-road costs into the loan, while others will only finance the bike itself. It depends on the lender and the bike, so mention it early and we'll factor it into which lenders we approach.

How fast can motorbike finance be approved?

Once your documents are in, approvals often land within 24 to 48 hours. Every approval is subject to lender criteria and credit assessment, so nothing is guaranteed, but delays usually come down to missing paperwork. Private sales can take slightly longer because of the ownership checks.
